Over 1000 years ago Kupe and Ngake gifted the name Wairarapa to this remote area. Captain Cook first sailed the coastline in 1770, to be followed in the 1800’s by the first European settlers who arrived on foot with their flocks of sheep from Port Nicholson (now Wellington). Up until the 1930’s all wool and stock left the area by sea. Today this wild and beautiful landscape remains dominated by the Pacific Ocean and its abundance of sea life. 2018 Tora Bay Syrah reflects this wild and unique spirit. This Hawke’s Bay Syrah is intriguing and smooth embracing dark fruit and peppery characteristics. Vibrant flavours of red plum and spice give this wine a distinguished palate paired with velvety smooth tannins and generous length. Drinking well now and excellent with food or will reward medium term cellaring developing further complexity.
